try to adjust the transducer offset settings, and most importantly try not to get the transducer too much way down to the hole, usually i leave it very high up when im fishing very shallow area(try leave only 15~20inches of wire from the arm to the transducer unit, if you're in a spot where theres a lot of weeds, use the 8 degree cone setting will give you a better view with less cluttering.) if you still having trouble seeing ur lure, keep the transducer wire in the center of the hole. dont put it on the side of the hole.
Also image turning on a flashlight pointing at the ground while move up and down see how the cone becomes bigger and smaller as you do it vertically. i have used marcum lx9 for 2 years it has worked for me flawlessly even when im fishing 8ft even down to 120 ft of water.
