Two Scarborough residents have received lengthy fishing bans for catching too many perch in Innisfil.

Song Jiang (宋江?)pleaded guilty and was fined $5,000. He was also given a lifetime fishing suspension.

Wei Yee Su pleaded guilty and was given a 10-year fishing suspension.

Court heard on March 18, a conservation officer with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry stopped Jiang and Su as they were returning from angling on the ice of Lake Simcoe near Gilford.

The officer discovered the pair had 260 yellow perch. Jiang had a sport fishing licence, allowing him to possess 50 yellow perch.

Su had a conservation fishing licence, allowing her to possess 25 yellow perch. The fish were permanently forfeited to the Crown.
