It was a sad and tragic end to the police search for a well-loved missing Georgina man after the body of 33-year-old Tyler Cooper was located in the mid-afternoon Thursday, March 1.
York Regional Police and Georgina Fire department airboats were out on Lake Simcoe most of the day Thursday focusing their search a couple of kilometres offshore of Keswick in the Pasadena and Lake Drive area after a police helicopter, the emergency response team using thermal and night vision equipment and the canine unit were unable to locate Cooper during an extensive overnight search Feb. 28.
At approximately 2:30 p.m., Marine Unit officers conducting a search of Lake Simcoe for the missing man located a body under the ice, YRP Const. Laura Nicolle said.
"The circumstances are not being deemed suspicious at this time," she added.
"He was a fabulous guy," said a distraught loved one of Cooper, whose mounting concern turned to profound sadness and loss after hearing the tragic news.
