Tay Valley man drowns after ATV breaks through ice on Bennett Lake
December 18, 2017

Divers with the OPP found the body of 80 year-old Elmer Abercrombie of Tay Valley after his ATV fell through the ice on Bennett Lake on Saturday.

They got the call from family at about 9:00pm on Saturday night. They were concerned that he had not returned home after a day of ice fishing. They told police they saw a large hole and were concerned that his ATV broke through the ice.

Police have determined that is what happened.

Lanark County OPP members and the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit searched for the man and found him yesterday.

The tragedy serves as a reminder that in some spots the ice is not ready for people or vehicles such as ATVs or trucks to travel safely on.

You are advised to use extreme caution around the ice and water and keep a close eye on kids to make sure they don’t venture out on potentially dangerous ice surfaces.

At age 80, hopefully his family takes comfort in knowing he died doing what he loves..

八十歲漁人怎會不知此时冰况, 我甚至想过 the guy just let thing happen....god forbid
