Hi Fellow members,

I have zero knowledge of those VHF or UHF radio and I heard that you have to get a licence in order to use it.
The main purpose for me to use this kind of radio to call someone when encounter in emergency situation during boating.
Please give me some advise which one to buy- see below link:

使用 VHF 的好一些, 包括有 DSC (Digital Selective Calling: Global (with GPS broadcasting) Maritime Distress Safety System )功能的更好

但是用 VHF 的 RADIO, 必须考试拿到此牌: Restricted Operator Certificate (Maritime), 才可以用 VHF RADIO 发信号, 否则只能接收, 不能发送.

No, I didn't get the time just yet to take course or go through whatever study material to get the license, which is why so far I have not used this VHF radio. But I intend to carry it anyway next time on my kayak on water (just in case: I could take advantage of its DSC calling in case of emergency)

16/9 Button: Press to recall channel 16 (Emergency Channel). Press and hold to recall channel 9. Press this key again to revert to previous selected working channel.

Does the one below has DSC button for emergency call?

I don't think this model has DSC function.

That mean this Boefeng doing nothing in case of emergency.
Does it call someone close to the range?

Call someone close in range? I think so, if someone happens to be on the same channel nearby listening, I think?

dude, DCS =/= DSC

Vhf is a line of sight radio, meaning the transmitting radio (youself ) and the receiving radio (coastguard and other fellow boaters ) must be within each others eyesight for possible hookup...
that said the use of Vhf is more effective for geat lake activifies IMHO..

yeah if you are on channel 16 coastguard within your line of sight should be able to hear your Mayday, providing your unit's antenna power gain is good enough for the job for the distance...not sure if you will be ticketed if your are licenseless though
