A search is underway for a snowmobiler who police believe disappeared into open water near Gravenhurst.
OPP Emergency Response Teams and the Underwater Search and Recovery Unit spent Sunday searching for signs of a snowmobiler. Around 8:00 Saturday night, area residents saw a snowmobile travel on Sparrow Lake. Residents tell police they watched it turn, head towards open water, and then disappear.
Saturday night Provincial Police called in the Canadian Armed Forces joint rescue coordination centre for assistance. A helicopter was sent in from Trenton, while crews searched along the ice. As the investigation continues, police are asking anyone with any information to come forward.
